Tom’s Corner Gets New Sign

Tom’s Corner, at the southeast corner of the intersection of TX194 and Fm168, is getting a new sign, thanks to the Hart Days Committee. Master Graphics of Plainview has crafted the 4×8 sign.

Tom’s Corner began more than 15 years ago as a class project in junior high. Students planted trees. Later, ag students erected the fence.

Then, a fiberglass Longhorn cow, painted by Jonalyn Jones, was erected. And, the late Marguerite McLain got an old windmill donated by the Merritt family, early Castro County pioneers.

Tom McLain volunteered to keep the area watered and mowed. The Hart Lions Club erected a marble sign on the west side. Locals began calling the area Tom’s Corner after McLain, Pct. 1 County Commissioner. The City provides the electricity and water. The land is not owned by the City, but by a local family.
