Robert Lewis Hawkins

Robert (Robbie) Lewis Hawkins, 84, died March 13, 2018. He was born in Tulia to Willis A. and Fredda Griffin Hawkins, Sr. on April 15, 1933. He and Leta Mae Moss married on May 10, 1952; she died in 2014.

Robbie was active in the First United Methodist Church of Hart, serving as Music Minister for 56 years. He was involved in and held titles in numerous organizations, including Hart Lions Club, Boy Scouts, National Farmers Union, Texas Pecan Producers, Inc., Walk to Emmaus and Kairos Prison Ministries.

He was instrumental in the design and construction of Castro County Memorial Gazebo at the Castro County Courthouse in Dimmitt, as well as Hart Centennial Pavilion in Hart.

He was a lifelong farmer until his death. He enjoyed singing, inventing, motorcycling and fishing. He had a strong sense of justice and love for God, family and country. He was as generous in death as in life,   donating his body for medical research.

He also is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mildred Hawkins, Lora Mack Wolfer, Sister Mary Hawkins and Gus Hawkins.

He is survived by four children, David and wife Cynthia Hawkins of Lewisville; Theron and wife Dottie Hawkins of Mont Belvieu, Texas; Lesa and husband Glen Dwyer of Lubbock; and Phillip and wife Jill of Rowlett; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willias A. Hawkins, Jr. and wife Rosalie of Canyon and Dr. Theron Hawkins and wife Joy of Comfort; and numerous nieces, nephews and treasured friends.

A celebration of life and  memorial service will be held April 28 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Hart.
