Hart Days Gets Underway Thursday

Hart Days 2017 kicks off with the Miss Hart and Little Miss Hart Pageants on Thursday, beginning at 8 p.m. at Centennial Pavilion. it is suggested you bring lawn chairs for seating. Ramona Neudorf again heads up the pageant, with Mark Castillo serving as narrator.

Theme for this year’s celebration is “Hart Days 2017:  Celebrating Our Past, Present and Future.”

On Friday, Centennial Pavilion is the place to be. Face-painting will be held from 6-8 p.m. at a cost of $3 per face. Please bring correct change. This is sponsored by the Hart Days Committee. Also, St. John’s Catholic Church will sponsor games, including Mexican Bingo. Other activities are planned at the Pavilion.

Beginning at 7 p.m. south of the fire station, the Hart Volunteer Fire Dept. will be ready for its first-ever Mud Volleyball Tournament. For details, contact George Chapa, Jr.at 292-0989. This will also take place on Saturday from noon until ?.

On Saturday, the Hart Lions Club Parade is set to begin at 10 p.m. Line-up will be on Second Street between the secondary and elementary campuses. Food vendors will be set up south of the Fire Station, and any arts and crafts booths will be inside the fire station.

This year, there will be a Car Show after the parade in the Bank Parking Lot. Judging is from 1-3 p.m. At 5, a burn-out on the west end of Ave E will take place. Contact Jesus Longoria at 292-4010 to enter and for more details. Entry fee is $10 per event or $15 for both.

The Lions Club Horseshoe Tourney begins at 2 p.m. north of the Fire Station. Also, the Masked Rider from Texas Tech University in Lubbock is expected to be in the area around the fire station to meet and greet, beginning at 1 p.m. Laurie Tolboom is the new Masked Rider, and will be appearing with the mascot, Fearless Champion, a black quarter horse gelding who was named the new mascot in 2013.

The junior high and high school cheerleaders will man inflatables for kids, as well as a Dunkin’ Booth. Gloria Godino is cheerleader sponsor. This will be in the area north of the fire station. And, a three-on-three basketball tournament sponsored by the Hart Youth Basketball League will begin at 12 noon at Carl’s Courts.

Agustin Perez, Jr will be the deejay for your dancing pleasure from 8 p.m. to midnight at the fire station.
